Gelinaz! Takes Over Upper-Austria : New Worlder

I have spent a considerable amount of time thinking about what exactly Gelinaz! is and means (read my R&K story from 2013). I have been to, scratch that, participated in several events at this point and I really don’t know what is going to happen at each. I’m continued to be surprised at how and what occurs and I really don’t know what is going to happen next. I don’t think even the founders, Andrea Petrini and Alexandra Swenden, do.

The initial events were pricey, over the top dinners, but they branched out into private gatherings (Wylie Dufresne’s surprise birthday), city tours (Walk With Us São Paulo,  London, etc), and global chef swaps where the guests attending the dinner don’t even know who is cooking at it until the end. Now they’re going to Upper Austria (is that even a place?).

Gelinaz! Does Upper Austria takes place on August 20 at Mühltalhof in Neufelden, the restaurant of Austrian father and son Helmut and Philip Rachinger, where 24 participating chefs will be serving food at seven different spaces in and around the restaurant. The chefs will work in teams of 3-4, riffing on three different dishes chosen by the Rachingers in any form they choose. Broken down into groups of 20, the guests will move from location to location, tasting 14-dishes and drinking all the way. At the end, everyone meets up at ‘The Gathering,’ a techno after party hosted by event art curator Joachim Eckl will be creating weird shit with a group of international artists.

Tickets go on sale on July 13th at 10am (CET) for $250. The event is limited to just 140 guests.

Here’s a short video about the event. You won’t understand anything after watching it.
